What is Selank?
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide (seven amino acids) derived from the immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin, extended with a Pro-Gly-Pro stabilising sequence. Its amino-acid sequence is Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro. Developed in Russia, Selank is widely studied as an anxiolytic and immunomodulatory research peptide. GenoPept supplies Selank in the UK as a lyophilised powder for laboratory research.
Because it is based on the tuftsin fragment, Selank is investigated for reported effects on neurotransmitter balance and immune signalling in preclinical models. The Pro-Gly-Pro extension increases its resistance to enzymatic degradation compared with native tuftsin.
Selank research applications
Published preclinical research on Selank spans several model-based areas, listed here for scientific context only.
- Anxiety models: studied in animal paradigms of anxiety-like behaviour.
- GABA and serotonin signalling: research explores reported modulation of inhibitory neurotransmission.
- Immunomodulation: investigated for effects on cytokine expression, reflecting its tuftsin origin.
- BDNF and cognition: examined for reported influence on neurotrophic factor expression in the brain of model systems.
Mechanism of action (preclinical)
In preclinical studies, Selank is reported to influence the balance of monoamine neurotransmitters and to modulate expression of enkephalin-degrading enzymes, which may slow the breakdown of endogenous regulatory peptides. Research also reports effects on GABAergic and serotonergic signalling and on BDNF expression in animal models, alongside immunomodulatory activity inherited from its tuftsin parent. Some studies additionally report changes in the expression of interferon and other cytokines in model systems, which researchers link to its immunomodulatory profile. These observations come from laboratory literature and are not statements about effects in people.

Reconstitution, handling and storage (laboratory)
Selank is supplied as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder in a sealed sterile glass vial with a black cap. For laboratory reconstitution, add bacteriostatic water or a suitable sterile diluent slowly down the inner vial wall, then swirl gently until dissolved. Never shake the vial, as agitation can shear the peptide.
Store unopened vials at –20 °C for long-term stability, or at 2–8 °C for short periods, protected from light. After reconstitution, keep the solution at 2–8 °C and use it within the window stated in the laboratory protocol. See the GenoPept guides on how to reconstitute research peptides and how to store research peptides.
Quality assurance and Certificate of Analysis
Purity and identity results are batch-specific. Consult the applicable supplied report for its results and methods; confirm the batch covers current stock and verify the laboratory’s accreditation scope directly.
The matching Certificate of Analysis (COA) is available from the “View Certificate of Analysis” button on this page, and the full library is published at the GenoPept COA certificates page. Learn more about what a Certificate of Analysis shows and the UK legal status of research peptides.

Selank frequently asked questions
What is Selank used for in research?
Selank is used in laboratory research to study anxiety-like behaviour, GABA and serotonin signalling, immunomodulation and neurotrophic factor expression in cell-culture and animal models. As a tuftsin analogue it is also examined in immune research. It is supplied strictly for in-vitro research and not for human use, diagnosis or therapy.
How is Selank supplied and what is its purity?
Purity and identity results are batch-specific. Consult the applicable supplied report for its results and methods; confirm the batch covers current stock and verify the laboratory’s accreditation scope directly.
How should Selank be stored?
Store unopened Selank vials at –20 °C for long-term stability, or at 2–8 °C briefly, protected from light. After reconstitution with bacteriostatic water or sterile diluent, keep the solution at 2–8 °C and use it within the window given in the laboratory protocol to maintain peptide stability and identity.
Is Selank for human use?
No. Selank from GenoPept is a research chemical supplied for in-vitro laboratory research only. It is not a medicine, not for human or veterinary use, and not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. Handling should be carried out only by qualified personnel in a suitable laboratory environment in line with UK research guidance.
What is the difference between Selank and Semax?
Selank is a tuftsin-derived peptide investigated mainly for anxiolytic and immunomodulatory activity, whereas Semax is an ACTH(4-10) analogue studied as a nootropic and neuroprotective peptide. Both are Russian-developed heptapeptides carrying a Pro-Gly-Pro stabilising motif and are sometimes studied together, but they address different research questions.
Research use only. This product is supplied for in-vitro laboratory research only. It is not for human or veterinary use, is not a medicine, and is not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic use. Handling should be carried out only by qualified personnel in an appropriate laboratory setting.
