What is Tesamorelin?

Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of human growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) that contains all 44 amino acids of the native peptide with a trans-3-hexenoic acid group attached to the N-terminus. This modification protects the molecule from rapid cleavage by dipeptidyl peptidase-4, making tesamorelin more stable and potent than native GHRH in preclinical models.

Tesamorelin is the peptide studied in a licensed medicine within the GHRH analogue class, and it has an extensive published clinical literature. In the laboratory it is used to investigate GHRH receptor pharmacology, pulsatile GH secretion, IGF-1 regulation and visceral adipose tissue biology.

GenoPept supplies tesamorelin in the UK as a lyophilised research peptide in 2mg, 5mg, 10mg and 20mg vials, each batch verified by independent HPLC and LC-MS testing and supplied with a Certificate of Analysis for research use only.

Tesamorelin research applications

Visceral adipose tissue models

Tesamorelin is studied in animal and clinical-literature contexts for its reported effects on visceral fat and lipid metabolism through GH-mediated lipolysis, making it a tool for adipose tissue and metabolic research.

GH and IGF-1 axis regulation

Research uses tesamorelin to examine how a long-acting GHRH agonist preserves physiological GH pulsatility and feedback, in contrast to exogenous GH administration in models.

Hepatic lipid research

Published research on the compound class has investigated GHRH analogues in models of hepatic fat accumulation and liver enzyme changes.

Neurocognitive models

Preclinical and published research explores GHRH analogue signalling in relation to cognitive function and neural metabolism in ageing models.

Peptide stability and formulation

Because of its N-terminal modification, tesamorelin is a useful comparator for studying protease resistance and peptide formulation strategies alongside sermorelin and CJC-1295.

Mechanism of action (preclinical)

Tesamorelin acts as an agonist at the GHRH receptor on pituitary somatotroph cells. Binding activates the Gs-coupled receptor, raising cAMP and driving both synthesis and pulsatile release of endogenous growth hormone, which in turn stimulates hepatic IGF-1 production.

The trans-3-hexenoyl modification at the N-terminus reduces cleavage by DPP-4, extending the duration of GHRH receptor stimulation compared with native GHRH or sermorelin. In preclinical models the GH response remains under feedback control by somatostatin and IGF-1, which is why tesamorelin is often studied as a more physiological alternative to direct GH administration.

Reconstitution, handling and storage (laboratory)

Tesamorelin is supplied as a lyophilised powder that is stable for long-term storage at -20 °C. Unopened vials may be kept at 2-8 °C for short periods, protected from light. Allow a vial to reach room temperature before opening to avoid condensation on the powder.

For reconstitution, add bacteriostatic water or a sterile diluent slowly down the inside wall of the vial, then swirl gently until the powder dissolves. Never shake a peptide vial, because mechanical stress can damage the molecule and reduce measured purity.

After reconstitution, keep the solution at 2-8 °C and use it within the period stated in your laboratory protocol. Full guidance is available in our articles on how to reconstitute research peptides and how to store research peptides.

Quality assurance and Certificate of Analysis

Every batch of Tesamorelin sold by GenoPept is tested by an independent ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory (Puralytix). HPLC confirms purity of 99% or higher and LC-MS confirms molecular identity, so the compound in the vial matches the label.

Each product page carries a “View Certificate of Analysis” button, and the complete library is published at genopept.co.uk/coa-certificates. Vials are batch-identified with lot number and expiry date, and our guide to what a Certificate of Analysis shows explains how to read the report.

Tesamorelin frequently asked questions

What is tesamorelin used for in research?

Tesamorelin is used in laboratory research as a stabilised GHRH receptor agonist. It is studied in models of visceral adipose tissue, lipid metabolism, hepatic fat and the GH/IGF-1 axis, and in receptor pharmacology assays comparing GHRH analogues. Its published clinical literature also makes it a reference compound for translational studies. Supplied strictly for in-vitro research.

How is tesamorelin supplied and what purity can I expect?

GenoPept tesamorelin comes as a lyophilised powder in sealed, sterile glass vials of 2mg, 5mg, 10mg or 20mg. Every batch is tested by an independent ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory, with HPLC confirming purity of 99% or higher and LC-MS confirming identity. The batch Certificate of Analysis is linked from the product page and the COA library.

How should tesamorelin be stored?

Keep unopened lyophilised tesamorelin at -20 °C for long-term storage, or at 2-8 °C for short periods, protected from light. After reconstitution with bacteriostatic water, store the solution at 2-8 °C and use it within the period stated in your laboratory protocol. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles and add diluent gently down the vial wall rather than shaking.

Is tesamorelin for human use?

No. Tesamorelin from GenoPept is supplied for in-vitro laboratory research only. It is not a medicine, is not for human or veterinary use, and is not for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. Although the compound class appears in published clinical literature, GenoPept provides no dosing or administration guidance, and buyers must be purchasing for legitimate research in the UK.

What is the difference between tesamorelin and sermorelin?

Tesamorelin contains the full 44-amino-acid GHRH sequence with an N-terminal trans-3-hexenoyl group, which resists DPP-4 cleavage and extends its activity in preclinical models. Sermorelin is the shorter 29-amino-acid fragment without protective modification and is broken down quickly. Both act at the GHRH receptor, but tesamorelin is the larger, more stable and more extensively clinically studied analogue.

Research use only. This product is supplied for in-vitro laboratory research only. It is not for human or veterinary use, not a medicine, and not for diagnostic or therapeutic use. See our research use only policy and UK legal guide.
